Alcoa Summer School Field Trip

Almost 30 students from the Alcoa City Schools Summer School program came out to the Schoolhouse for a half-day field trip and picnic Thursday, June 17th.

“It’s always so much fun having the students come out to the schoolhouse,” said Executive Director Mary Lynne Bell. “These students were able to see what life was like back in the 1800s for students like themselves.”

As part of the field trip, the students were able to make dip candles with Sandi Parrish, sit in a regular school lesson with retired teacher Linda Rizzardi, grind corn with Schoolhouse Boardmember Dan Cooper and get a guided tour through the museum with Roy Heck.

During their picnic lunch, the students were also treated to storytelling and music with Native American Flute Player Jack Lynn.

“We always welcome city school and home school groups to come out the schoolhouse for their fieldtrip,” Bell said. “All you have to do is contact us by phone or fill out the form on our new website to schedule.”

Although Group Tours and Field Trips are cost free, the calendar can fill up fast.
